Arguably the wunderkind of Australian fashion, Dion Lee has been keeping himself busy of late. In between launching diffusion lines and collaborations with 'cool' corporate store Cue, Lee has been arduously rendering the creations that featured today in his RAFW 2011 show outside the Sydney Opera House.
True to um, form, Lee presented a series of structural creations under the title Composure. Thick reflective silver jewellery appropriately enslaved the models as they sashayed around the sun-drenched space in equally as lively colours; highlighter pastel blue contasted white, while black and grey were the other staples of the collection.
You can see why Lee has been so successful. His ability to marry architectural design with wearable silhouettes and on trend colour have seen his suiting adorn everyone from style-conscious corporates to fashion design students. When he creates a statement piece however, as with some of the gowns in this latest collection, his deft touch with folding and pleating becomes apparent; layers of fabric interlock around the torso, creating tucks and cut outs in the most appropriate of places. Combined with the rigid silver Lee accessorized, his RAFW 2011 collection is, once again, a lesson in wearable futurism.
