My inquisition into what Leelee Sobieski, runner-up star in a myriad teen films and chick flicks during my adolescence, began with her cover for the latest issue of I Love You Magazine:
Hair coiffed, chuffed expression, elegant stance, she looked nothing like the member of maths group - The Denominators (amazing name) - she belonged to in Never Been Kissed, the promotion of which involved a series of questionable red carpet outfit decisions. I then opened the magazine to find this editorial:
Which would lead me to believe that Leelee Sobieski has in fact given birth, and I think, from the pearls and pantsuits we can derive that she has also matured?
From the looks of her iMDb it does indeed seem that Ms. Sobieski is going to become a credible actress in her (slightly) older age, with two indepedent films due for release in 2012 following an appeareance on critically acclaimed The Good Wife. So let us for a moment reflect on her as the best friend. Best friend to people like Drew Barrymore who re-attended high school for a journalistic assignment only to use round two to become the cool girl she never was and proceed to treat Sobieski like shit - that scene at the prom where she gets cat food spilt down her double helix costume being the Climax of Evil. Best friend to people like me, watching these films as an insecure tween and realizing - although desperately, desperately hoping otherwise - that we would probably never be a Jennifer Love Hewitt or Julia Stiles in this world (although hindsight is a wonderful thing), but could maybe achieve Sobieski status. So thanks Leelee, here's to getting us through some crucial years.
Did we mention Joan of Arc? Woah out of no-where! Thank you, Leelee, thank you, thank you. Without you I can only imagine Keira Knightley would have taken up this challenge, and we all know how that would have ended. Badly, although admittedly watching Knightley burn at the stake might be slightly satisfying. No, I didn't say that! Leelee would never be that mean! Just look at the pictures please.
